Green Performance Racing
Drayson-Barwell has created one of the world’s most exciting racing programmes: a performance-led Green Sportscar/GT racing car project with global visibility and resonance.
The Challenge of Our Time
The two major concerns of our time are the environment and energy. Scientists have now shown that climate change is a reality and awareness is growing about dwindling reserves of fossil fuel.
The general public’s awareness of these issues is developing fast and is increasingly affecting the choices they make. Business is responding. But at the heart of this seminal change in western society is a dilemma. How can we maintain the lifestyle to which our society has become accustomed in the face of clear evidence of its effect on the environment and energy resources? How can we persuade people to change their wasteful habits - without spoiling their fun ... ?
In short how can we be Green without being boring?
Cars are at the heart of this debate. One of the most important icons of the 20th century was the car, representing freedom and aspiration more than any other single product. As we enter the 21st century, the car is at the heart of the debate around energy and climate change.
A New Team
We at Drayson-Barwell believe these circumstances present a timely opportunity for a new type of motor racing team. Motor racing has always been at the forefront of change - setting trends and developing technical innovations which then filter down to the general motorist. Endurance Sportscar/GT racing - with its emphasis on stamina, reliability and speed - is the perfect platform to showcase new ideas in marketing and technology that aim to address the central dilemma of our time and to answer it.
Our racing formula is: Performance through efficiency. We believe it is possible to use modern technology to develop effective solutions to the environmental challenge, and that endurance motor racing provides the perfect platform to change perceptions. To make ‘Being Green’, cool and exciting, not boring and dull. To do this by competing and being successful.
The new Drayson-Barwell venture in ALMS follows a highly-successful season for Paul Drayson and Barwell Motorsport in the 2007 British GT Championship, where we achieved the following historical landmarks for a ‘Green’ racing project:
- proved the competitiveness and reliability of our E85 bio-fuelled car
- won first major British championship race for a bio-fuelled race car
- achieved 2 wins and 6 other podium finishes in 14 races
- had zero retirements due to reliability issues
- won the Overall Teams Championship
- came second in the Overall Drivers championship
- generated massive publicity for the unique bio-ethanol powered car
